recaps discussion news cast 362 October 30, 2016 Jealousy Incarnate Episode 20 Feelings are discovered and clean breaks are made, but a lull never lasts long in dramaland, and itâs time to bring skeletons out of closets, have long-overdue fights, and then maybe fight about not fighting. And I donât know about anyone else, but this hour really leaves me cravingâcrazy craving!âramyun. EPISODE 20 RECAP Hwa-shin leans over Na-ri and they kiss. In voiceover, he asks her to date him now, please. When they take a breath, she laugh-cries about how wronged she feels and hugs him tight. He declares theyâll date starting today. Hwa-shin sneaks Na-ri into the kitchen of the empty staff canteen. He starts to make ramyun for her and, but his technique and frequent questions make her guess that he doesnât actually know what heâs doing, although he insists he does. She remembers his ex saying how he never used to lift a finger, and he replies indignantly that she and Na-ri arenât even comparableâhe never made her ramyun. She peeks over his shoulder to see if itâs done, and his eyes crinkle with a smile as she squees that itâs exactly her style. They sit down to eat, Na-ri still trying to get him to admit itâs his first time making it. In his mumbly way, he says theyâll have ramyun together a thousand more times, but in the face of her smirk, he finishes with a huffy, âCan you just believe me?â Falling into giggles, Na-ri asks, âWhen you say, Letâs eat ramyun a thousand times,â is that a proposal?â She says that if they have it every three days, it would take three thousand days and thatâs nearly ten years. âItâs not a proposal,â Hwa-shin laughs in reply. Na-ri decides to sleep at the station and they part in front of her room. But before Hwa-shin turns the corner, he turns back to her. âIâm sorry. For making you lonely for so long,â he says, with a heavy sigh, âI regret wasting that time, too.â Heâs heartened by her reply that she hasnât been so good lately either, and asks her to hang out with him instead of sleeping, plucking at her sleeve like a 6-year-old. Finding it endearing, she laughs and sends him on his way. Back in his dorm, he growls to himself that sheâs so cute. Hahaha. In the morning, Na-ri practices her steps for the election broadcast, thinking to herself that itâs possible she can do better than Hye-won. Ja-young watches her from the mezzanine above, pleased by her diligence. Madam Kim drops in on Jung-won. She remarks on not seeing Na-ri around lately, but he just says sheâs been busy. Madam Kimâs also heard that Na-ri is doing election coverage, and tells Jung-won to prepare outfits for her to wear for it. Meanwhile, the news comes though of Hye-wonâs fatherâs resignation from his government post. Announcer Uhm and PD Oh sigh that itâs a shame, but from behind his newspaper, Hwa-shin pipes up that they neednât worry, âOur Pyo Na-ri can do well, too.â The other two turn to him in surprise. âOur Pyo Na-ri?â repeats PD Oh. Out of view, Hwa-shin smiles giddily to himself. Hye-won finishes a call with her father. Looking bitterly at Na-ri, she says to herself that if he were going to resign, he shouldâve done it just a bit sooner. Hwa-shin shares an elevator with Sung-sook. Still bursting with little smiles, he tells her sheâs pretty today, and says he understands now why his brother married her. Sourly, she points out that they also divorced, then his brother died, and now sheâs about to lose her daughter. If he understands why his brother married her now, when will he understand all the things that happened after that, she asks. Lols. A good question. She guesses he must be dating, but smiles to herself all the same. In the studio, they run through a full-team rehearsal for the election coverage, and Hwa-shin coaches Na-ri on diction, presenting in time with the graphics, and placing her steps correctly. Hye-won comes to watch, just as they switch off the autocue to simulate a broadcasting accident. Hwa-shin improvises smartly by discussing the two opposing candidatesâ election promises. He hands over to Na-ri, who talks about past turnouts, and then looks at him for approval. âIs that it?â Hwa-shin asks, and tells her it was dull. Hye-won steps onto the stage and makes a lively case about key historical figures who had all once been mayors of Seoul. That was interesting, Hwa-shin says proudly, and Hye-won hands each of them a coffee. Having made her point, she tells them to do well and sees herself off. Jung-won comes to Na-riâs building and drops off the outfitsâone for each part. She tries to turn him down, but he says that heâs also dressing Hwa-shin. âYou really are stubborn,â she says, giving him a hard look. She asks him to stop coming, and he reproaches her for being so cold towards him. âIâll do well,â she tells him. âOf course,â he replies. Election day is here, and Na-ri prepares herself. Looking in the mirror, she tells herself that she can do it. Ja-young comes in with coffee and advice, and says that the most important thing is not to be nervous. Since itâs live and unscripted, she says Na-ri also has to pay close attention to reading numbers. Ready to go at the newsdesk, Hwa-shin notes Na-riâs nerves and snaps his fingers for her attention. He proceeds to make faces at her and makes her do mouth-stretches to loosen up. He slides a note over to her âDonât be nervous.â And another âYouâre not alone.â âYou have me.â He hesitates a moment before sliding over one more âI love you â They look at each other, smiling, and Na-ri slips the notes into her pocket. The live broadcast begins. But disaster strikes when one of the graphics shows the bar graph for the percentage of votes to each candidate the wrong way around which Na-ri reads first, while the number of votes remains correct. Not noticing the problem, she thus reports the wrong candidate in the lead, while panic builds behind the cameras. Amid the confusion, they confirm the numbers are correct, so Hwa-shin cuts in to take over from Na-ri. She at last realizes the mistake, and Dong-gi finally gets rid of the offending graphic. Hwa-shin hands over to a field report, and as soon as the on-air light is off, he goes to a wide-eyed Na-ri and tells her itâs okay. Smiling, he encourages her to forget this. But on his way back to the desk, he growls at Dong-gi to do his work properly. Hwa-shinâs mom and Madam Kim are watching at Rak Pasta. Hwa-shinâs mom remarks that Jung-wonâs girlfriend is making mistakes, and figures Jung-won must like her a whole lot, to choose her over Soo-jung. Madam Kim fierily rejoins that itâs Na-ri who likes Jung-won more. Back in the studio, they begin to report regional results across a map of Seoulâs districts, but the CGI team mess up with another wrong graphic, and Na-ri finds herself pointing at a blank space, even though sheâs on her mark. As she tries to adjust to it, the team change it, and sheâs in the wrong place again. This is terrible! Dong-gi has a meltdown up in the control room, and they find out that theyâre tanking in the ratings. Na-riâs uncertainty shows, and once again, Hwa-shin strides in and smoothes it over, to the seniorsâ collective relief. In the interval, Na-ri clips out of the studio. PD Oh tells Hwa-shin that the SBC president just said that Na-ri will be fired from the morning news if she makes another mistake. Hwa-shin goes in search of her, but pauses uncertainly outside the bathrooms. Inside, Na-ri tries practising a few lines. âI can do it,â she repeats to herself, reminding herself that she does live broadcasts every day. Finally, Hwa-shin goes in, and takes Na-riâs hands in his. She churns in agitation and he tells her again not to dwell on her first half mistakesâshe can do thisâŠcanât she? She calms, but a tiny flicker of uncertainty crosses his face. Bursting into an empty stairwell, Hwa-shin locks a cigarette between his teeth as he thinks. He seems to come to a decision, and stops Na-ri on her way out of the loos. He warns her that making one more mistake would have big consequences for her, and says, âYou decide. Can you do part two?â Thereâs a long pause, and he asks if he should swap her out. She still hasnât said a word, when he nods and says, âLetâs take it up to here.â Sheâs still wordless, when he tells her she could lose her morning slot. At long last, she nods, and with a loving caress, he sends her home. On his way back to the studio, he makes a call. PD Oh breaks off arguing with the president when Hwa-shin returns alone. Hwa-shin merely takes his seat. A moment later, Hye-won comes in and takes the seat beside him, and PD Oh immediately calms. Ja-young watches this unfold. âBroadcast sure is cold-blooded,â she says in distaste, before turning heel and leaving. Hwa-shinâs head remains lowered, as he struggles with his feelings. With new energy, Dong-gi kicks off again, but everyone is taken aback when Hwa-shin roars at him to get his act togetherâthe previous mistakes were because they messed up the graphics, so theyâd better take responsibility. Hye-won coolly takes in the impassioned outburst. Ja-young searches for Na-ri, but sheâs not in the building. At Rak Pasta, Chef Rak and the moms notice Na-riâs been swapped out. Jung-won, watching with Secretary Cha, leaps to his feet. âThat cold-blooded bastard,â he whispers. Heading for his car, he growls that he wonât stand for it if Hwa-shin is the one who swapped her out. Looking up at Hye-won and Hwa-shin on the big screen outside the SBC building, Na-ri canât stop a few tears escaping. Jung-won nearly passes by, but stops the car as he catches sight of her. Wiping her eyes, she leaves without noticing Jung-won, who gets out of his car and follows at a distance while Cha follows behind him, lol. The broadcast wraps up and PD Oh tells them they finished top. Sung-sook catches Hwa-shin at the desk and asks, âWasnât that your girlfriend?â She remarks that he hasnât changed at allâstill willing to hurt his lover or his family if for the sake of his job. âAre my words wrong?â she asks with a cutting smile. Announcer Uhm breaks in and tells Hwa-shin he did a good job, but Hwa-shin canât stay there a moment longer. He heads straight to Na-riâs place, but she isnât home. Still on her sad way home, Na-ri pauses at the sight of Hwa-shinâs car, and turns around only to be faced with Jung-won. He asks if sheâs okay, and she says she is, but he steps in front of her as Hwa-shin approaches. Na-ri looks back at Hwa-shin over Jung-wonâs shoulder, and then walks past him without a word. Jung-won confronts him about swapping Na-ri out. Hwa-shin replies that it would have been worse if she panicked and made more mistakes. He says Na-ri can handle herself, and must go through this pain now in order to overcome her fears. But Jung-won really becomes incensed when Hwa-shin says there are things he doesnât know. He says he watched over Na-ri crying, while her pride prevented her from crying in front of Hwa-shin. And while Hwa-shin ran away to Thailand, Jung-won watched his family suffer. Voice hard, he says that Hwa-shin would do the same again, all for the sake of his beloved job. âThatâs my way of loving my brother, and loving Pyo Na-ri,â Hwa-shin says passionately, âEven if it looks like injury and hurt in the eyes of the world, thatâs just what other people think. I did that to my brother because I loved him. I made Pyo Na-ri step down because I love her. I donât need other peopleâs understanding, and I donât want it.â But he says he thought Jung-won, at least, understood him. âYou might say you loved them,â Jung-won replies savagely, âBut a wound is a wound all the same to the person receiving it.â He adds that if Hwa-shin took Na-riâs heart from him only to hurt her like this, he wonât forgive him. But Hwa-shin says that, hurt or heal, Jung-won doesnât get to judge. âThis is why I canât send Pyo Na-ri to you,â Jung-won answers, as the men remain nose to nose, and the silence stretches between them. Na-ri lies on her bed, arm over her eyes, replaying Hwa-shinâs words. Chi-yeol checks in, asking what happened. More to herself than to him, she says sheâd be even more pitiful if she were mad, and wonders if she shouldâve asked to be let off since sheâs his girlfriend. It takes Chi-yeol a minute to clock the word âgirlfriendâ, but Na-ri sends him off before he can ask. The next day, Sung-sook marches into PD Ohâs office where heâs having a meeting with Ja-young, and asks her if she plans to marry Chef. Ja-young admits she wants to make a family for Pal-gang, but Sung-sook tells her to stick with just dating him. Ja-young realizes Sung-sook is afraid of being kicked out of the house. Tone flippant, Sung-sook says sheâll do all the housework from now on, and Ja-young scoffs. Unfazed, Sung-sook shares that Chef can hug, so sheâs sure Ja-young can awaken his desire âsince youâre sexier than meâ. Iâm not sure it works like that, but Ja-young perks up. Trapped between the two women, PD Oh gives up. Na-ri arrives chipper and cheerful for the morning news, although her partner Announcer Park is an ass to her about last night. Hwa-shin comes to watch her, too, and she smiles brightly at him. After she finishes, she finds Hwa-shin waiting outside the studio. He can barely speak, but translating his awkward twitching, she easily agrees to coffee. She remains cheerful with Hwa-shin, although her face falls when she meets Hye-wonâs eyes across the floor. He brings up yesterday, and she apologizes. Lightly, she says that she wanted to do well in front of him, although she doesnât know if sheâll get another chance now to stand next to him. He just looks at her with tormented eyes. Na-ri finds Hye-won is waiting for her at her desk. â[Hwa-shin] might be dating you, but at work, Iâmhis partner,â Hye-won says, âHe also matches well with me. Iâm his workplace girlfriend. You acknowledge that, right?â Na-ri quirks into a smile and agrees that sheâs lacking at the job, but asks Hye-won if sheâs ever had ramyun at work, cooked by Hwa-shin himself. âItâs to die for,â she tells a confused Hye-won. Hwa-shin finds Na-ri leaning tiredly in the elevator, but she perks up when she notices him. Frustrated, he pulls her into a stairwell. He sits her down and says she must hate him to death after heâher boyfriend!âchanged her out like that. He gets more and more worked up, angry that sheâs not angry with him, that sheâs smiling. He demands she fight with him, and doesnât understand why she wonâtâif they wonât fight about this, then what? She says thereâll be lots to fight about later, âLetâs not fight. Iâll do better.â Still smiling, she tells him to get to his broadcast, which is about to start any minute. Back in the office, Na-ri makes Ja-young an offering of vitamin drinks. In sympathy, Ja-young tells Na-ri that Hwa-shin was really reprehensible and she should ditch him. Aw. But Na-ri asks Ja-young to teach her everything about her job from the beginning âI want to become a capable person.â That night, Hwa-shin joins Na-ri and Beom outside Stepmomâs store. After a moment, he plants a kiss on Beomâs cheek and asks Na-ri if he should give her one, too. She shakes her head, and Hwa-shin kisses Beomâs other cheek, but Na-ri doesnât want one there either. Pacing, he finally asks Stepmom for ramyun. Back at Na-riâs place, Hwa-shin brings her a pot of freshly-cooked ramyun, and says itâs the second time. Once sheâs eating, Hwa-shin goes into teach-mode, telling her how anchors who were field reporters respond better in real-time broadcast emergencies than studio announcers. She offers to get him kimchi, but he sits her back down. He tells her that she needs to practise more, read the newspapers every day for a variety of perspectives instead of watching him read them, ha, and put more thought into writing her openers to keep viewers interested in whatâs to come. He doesnât notice Na-riâs darkening expression, until she throws down her chopsticks. âYou didnât believe in me one bit, that I could do the second half well without mistakes, did you?â she accusesâthatâs why he changed her out. Na-ri sighs that sheâd held it in, not wanting to look petty, but now she can see that he thought she was lacking from the start. She crosses her arms, ready to be frank at last, and says that tried to understand him, knowing he must feel awful after doing that to his girlfriend, âStill, Iâm your girlfriend! You could have believed in me a bit, but you kicked me out.â Sheâs embarrassed that sheâs ended up saying it to him after all. Taking a moment to collect herself, she says she still doesnât quite believe that he really likes her âIf I get angry, weâll fight, and if we fight, youâll say letâs break up.'â She tells him she was so afraid of that that she couldnât even get angry. âDo you feel good now?â she yells. His head is bowed, and she turns her back on him. âMarry me,â Hwa-shin says, raising his head and he says heâll have that kimchi, too, âWhen youâre fierce and furious like this, youâre so beautiful, so lovable to me.â She looks back at him in disbelief. Eyes alight, he says that heâll make her ramyun a thousand times âIâm proposing. Letâs get married.â COMMENTS And as the credits roll, thereâs a ridiculously cute little alien Love, Actually re-enactment with the notes! Hee! That was a lovely proposal in itself, but Iâm pretty sure marriage wonât solve your problems, Hwa-shin! Although it might solve some of them? This relationship is wonderfully tangled in a way that makes it exciting to watch but torturous to write about, because thereâs so much to unsnarl. I was glad that the broadcast let Na-riâs inexperience at her new job show, and at first, it seemed to me like the question was whether it was wrong of Hwa-shin to switch Na-ri out. I didnât think so, as their romantic relationship has no place in their working relationship. I also didnât think this situation was comparable or similar to what happened with his brother. No, Hwa-shin was maligned by the world because without the worse outcome playing out, people canât properly comprehend that this is the best of a bad situation. And like he told Jung-won, heâs entitled not to explain himself. So with Na-riâs job at risk, he did exactly what he should have done and made a good call. And until Na-ri confronted him with her side, I didnât see it. But after seeing it, I canĂąâŹâąt unsee it, and it changed the entire second half of the episode to me. Because her complaint isnât that she doesnât get preferential girlfriend treatment, itâs that he decides things relevant to her by himself. He had already made up his mind when he told Na-ri that it was up to her if she wanted to carry on in the second half or not. He didnât actually wait for her to answerâall her silences have been so telling, and in that moment, the betrayal is actually written clearly on her face. Itâs the same thing that Jung-won accuses him of, and thatâs whatâs exactly the same between what happened with Na-ri now and what happened with his brother. While what he did might have been kindestâchanging out Na-ri quietly, or exposing the corruption in his brotherâs company himself before someone else did it in an overblown wayâin both instances, Hwa-shin acts on his own for someone elseâs good, and makes decisions about them as if they donât have the right or ability to decide for themselves. And itâs an insidious thing, this undermining and overbearing. And accompanied by a caress or an âI love you,â it becomes a total mindscrew. I wouldnât say in this instance that itâs abusive, but itâs an abusive pattern, this iteration of âdaddy knows best,â which makes it a dangerous trait to go unchecked. So when you rewatch these scenes, suddenly her silences stand out; thatâs not gratitude on her face, itâs something much more complicated. And that placid front masks how much Na-ri struggles to reconcile herself to something that seems on the surface like it was right but feels subtly wrong, and even I never guessed it until she said it. And that is what marriage or popping the question doesnât solve. However, the other thing I realized from Na-riâs confession, that Iâd almost forgotten from last week, is that her relationship with Hwa-shin, though now official and mutual, is still something she doesnât have any security in, and maybe marrying her really is the only way that he can prove to her or she can prove to herself? that he wonât change his mind, that he wants to be with her for keeps. After all, it was the sense of constancy and reliability with Jung-won that kept her at his side so long, so in that respect, a serious proposal from Hwa-shin might be as important to her as the fight was to him. I feel like that stairwell fight, and the blowout they have at the end and Hwa-shinâs reaction to it, reveals his relationship priorities in a really interesting way. Where hers right now are trust and security, his are closeness and communication. I think to him, a frank and open fight is the indicator that theyâre alright, or at least they will be. Actually, looking back on his character, with the exception of his cancer, this frankness tends to play out for better or for worse in the way he interacts with everyone around him. Heâs blunt and precise and doesnât mince his words. I think he suffers from not receiving the same candor in return, and maybe he knows it, since he craves it from Na-ri. This is why the other highlight of this episode is his fight with Jung-won. The boysâ friendship isnât perfect and probably never was, despite early appearances, but it never needed to come to a head before. It adds an interesting depth to Jung-won to know that he reserved judgement on his friend in the past, and I wonder whether his criticism now is a response to the moment, or if itâs been latent in his mind for years. Even if Hwa-shin believed in his own reasons, Jung-wonâs accusations of causing pain and suffering hold as much truth, and that truth clings to him. Like Jung-won said, pain is still pain, however good your intentions. But the first half really did a great job of showing us how natural our couple can be when they work. They have an easy camaraderie that is as warm as it is prickly, in the way of best friends, and thatâs always been their best dynamic. But maybe sometimes, everything has to be broken, before it can be remade again. JURNALMEDAN - Sinopsis drama Korea Jealousy Incarnate episode 14 hari ini Jumat 20 Agustus 2021 jam 19.00 WIB di NET TV, menceritakan penyesalan dan pengakuan cinta Lee Hwa Shin kepada Pyo Na Ri.. Lee Hwa Shin yang sebelumnya membantu Pyo Na Ri agar sampai tepat waktu ditempat audisi kembali menyatakan perasaannya kepada Pyo Na Ri.
A Nervwrackingly amazing episode! Episode 20 was all kinds of nervewracking for me. I was ACTUALLY nervous for Na Ri lol. And everytime she did well, i felt like a proud sis!! It's so good to see a show showcasing so many little aspects of a profession. I love it. While everyone else is talking about the proposal, the switching and JW, I'm going to just say that all of it made sense to me and I appreciate the sense of reality that is woven throughout the show even if the situations are absurd. I keep on thinking what would I do in these situations, or how I would react or how I would try to underastand, and it all comes together so perfectly. Hye Won is one brilliant character. It's so good to see her not be the evil second lead and instead a right minded, competitive yet a person with clear priorities AND BOUNDARIES. She knows exactly when she can butt in and exactly when she should leave. I love that about her. I really want to take this moment to appreciate the depth of the characters the writers have created. When NR didn't want to fight, I though maybe she's the kind of person who had gone through a lot of ups and downs and wouldn't want to stir something because of the broadcast, but at the same time I had the feeling that a fight between these two wouldn't be the normal fight for power amongst couples, rather it'd be a fight to let concerns out and that's why I was so impressed by HS wanting her to fight and get angry at him. It was such a right thing to do. Deep down I think all of us know, NR doesn' t blame HS for switching and we know he did it because he cared about her. And genuinely wants her to learn and improve. Each time a situation like this comes across, I'm always iompressed by how HS handles it and how NR recieves and works hard at everything. I absolutely loved the scenes where Bang Ja was observing NR. NR working hard at what she does is one of my favourite things in the show and I always look forward to it. I'm still waiting for a little more screen time to the teenage trio, I want to know more about them. All in all, this was one never wrecking episode in all good ways possible. The look HS had at the ending was to die for. JJS and GHJ are killing it. As for JW, i don't think he really meant what he said, I still feel amongst the two, even though HS seems immature, it is actually JW that is more like a child. So I'm sure he'll get around. 4 more to go. Can't wait to see what's in store. Writers, FIGHTING!! Read More Was this review helpful to you?

But this hour really belongs to Na-ri, as sheâs drawn gently out of her shell by her Mr. Dreamboat who, yup, does more dreamboaty stuff aka âbeing a good guyâ. Damn. EPISODE 10 RECAP Jung-won and Na-ri get into his car to escape the rain. He coaxes her into admitting that she had a hard time today because of the articles about his apparently impending marriage, and thanks her for coming back. She confesses that she wouldnât have had the courage to if Hwa-shin had not brought her, and they resolve to be good to him. But they suddenly realize heâs not there, and get out to look for him. Hwa-shin stumbles through the rain and gets drenched by the spray of a passing car. At the stoplights overhead, electronic rain falls over the red man, too. Madam Kim drops in on Chef at Rak Pasta to give him something she picked up for him in Paris. ItâsâŠFrench Viagra? Dude, why does your sister know this about you? She rails at him for wasting himself in this backwater, and finds his impotence embarrassing. Frustrated, he snaps that his doctor said it must be a punishment for him treating women too carelessly before. Thatâs a medical opinion, yâall. Not giving up, she explains the pills have a mild side-effect of making you wink, but what of it, she says brightlyâit means itâs working! How many ways can this go wrong, haha. He tells her his condition is psychological, and growls at her to get out. She leaves the bottle on his counter. In her room, Pal-gang has the TV switched on to Sung-sookâs report, and the radio tuned to Ja-young. She tries to cut her nails but canât, and breaks into wailing for her dad. Hwa-shin lurches into the SBC building, wearing a focused look that can only come from drink. Why are you drinking, you stupid fool? He asks a passing weathercaster, âDo you want to date me?â and she hurries off in disgust. When he reaches the elevators, Joo-hee and the morning announcer, Jin, are about to debark. âLetâs date,â he proposes, blocking the doors. They push past him in distaste. He makes the same invitation to the next woman he meets âIâm charming, itâs hard to turn me down, right?â But he looks up to see Sung-sook. Haha. âYeah, letâs date,â she says sarcastically, âIâm your sister-in-law!â Hwa-shin ends up in an empty newsroom where Hye-won practises her newsreading. Hands braced on the desk, he dips forwardâŠand slurps up Hye-wonâs coffee. âDo you want to date me? In return for the coffee,â he says, straightening up. She criticizes his behavior when he should be preparing for the auditions. âSo you donât want to date me?â Hwa-shin says. She asks if he even knows who she is, âI donât know,â he replies, head lolling. Ire rising, Hye-won curses him out fiercely in banmal, and tells him to go sleep off the drink instead of sullying the newsroom with his nonsense. Through his drunken haze, he praises her impressive cursingâŠand dips for her coffee again. Thoroughly unimpressed, she leaves him there. Jung-won calls Soo-jung out of her house, and tells her that he canât marry her. âLetâs marry people we like,â he says. She asks if he has someone he likes and is momentarily shocked to find out itâs Na-ri. He clarifies that he first met Na-ri after their arranged date, and Soo-jung nods in understanding. He tells her that heâll take the blame tell the elders, but Soo-jung good-naturedly tells him not to worry about it, sheâll take care of it. In her dorm, Na-ri sighs over her way-down-the-list candidate number for the auditions, and wonders where she can film her introduction reel. Just as sheâs grumbling about Hwa-shin and his aborted hospital visit, the door opens to let in the man himself. Na-ri can tell heâs been drinking, and rips into him for vanishing, but pulling up a chair, he just laughs. âAre you upset because of me?â he asks, mumbling that thatâs the only time she looks for him. He answers her questions with his own âDo you want to date me?â Na-ri blinks, and then laughs that everyone already thinks theyâre dating. But Hwa-shin leans in and asks again. She points out that sheâs dating his friend Jung-won, and says she means to give it her best shot. He stares at her with that unnerving focus and says, âIâll do everything you want, so letâs date.â Sheâs about to brush him off when she gets an impish look in her eye and asks, âReally? Everything?â But he flatly refuses her first wish to sing Wrongful Meeting again. He sings a different song instead, and she claps along, getting into it. She asks him to dance too, and falls about laughing when he immediately does. He gives her a ballad next, but she supposes he canât rap. Except he totally does it, haha, ending with the line, âLetâs date.â That stops her mirth, and so she tells him to make her laugh. He turns on her with cross-eyes, and she crows, showing him her own. They laugh with glee, and Na-ri issues rapid-fire commands Stand up! Dance! Sing! Like an amped-up personal jukebox, he belts out songs and complies with every orderâŠuntil she asks him to fart, like that time in the hospital. Something like embarrassment comes over him then, and he drops back into the chair. She coaxes and cajoles, and tells him she sometimes thinks of the sound of that fart. But whyyyy would you do that?? Voice dropping, Hwa-shin asks her if she doesnât think itâs a shame to let her three years of unrequited love go to waste like that. With a quiet smile, she replies that she doesnât, and Hwa-shin asks, half to himself, how a crush can change. Head dropping to his chest, he says pitifully, âI want to eat cup ramyun.â But it ainât his day, neither for women nor for ramyun, as Na-ri canât find any in her stores. She doesnât see the lone cup thatâs fallen into a dark corner. Elsewhere, Dae-goo and Chi-yeol come down to the darkened restaurant to make themselves some night-time ramyun. Chi-yeol spots the Magical Man Pills and Dae-goo disses Chef for hoarding goodly vitamins for himself. He pops one in his mouth and tosses another to Chi-yeol. This surely cannot end well. The next morning, Sung-sook and Ja-young wait to see Pal-gang off to school. Sung-sook tells her to take an umbrella, since Na-riâs forecast predicted rain. Pal-gang points out that the other moms come to pick up their kids when it rains, and Ja-young immediately says sheâll come. Sung-sook is concerned about Pal-gangâs report card and the moms gape when they find out sheâs bottom of the whole school. They follow her outside, scolding her and each other, and Pal-gang finally looks up from her nails. She asks them who they are to play at being mom when theyâve never once cooked her a meal or gone to her school. Appalled by her rudeness, Sung-sook asks if thatâs how her father raised her. Ja-young says that she wonât let Pal-gang run wild, and demands she trim her nails. Pushed over the edge, Pal-gang yells at the two women, accusing them of trying to act like her mom when theyâre not. Ja-young slaps her across the face. Near tears, Pal-gang tells them how Dad looked after her how he came to school with an umbrella if it rained, a jacket if it was cold, sweet potatoes when it snowed. She says that he always cut her nails, and since he died, she canât bring herself to do it. He was always sorry that that was all he could do for her, since they had no money. âWhat were you ahjummas doing then?â she asks, crying. Hwa-shin wakes up in Na-riâs bunk, and everything that happened the night before flashes through his mind. He groans. When Na-ri returns with a cup of tea, he flees. Hwa-shin snaps at Na-ri not to follow him. Amused, she tells him sheâs going her own way. But he freezes in horror when the elevator doors open to aaallll the women he propositioned last night HAHA. Sung-sook barks at him to get in. When the doors close, Joo-hee mischievously asks which one of them heâs going to date. Sung-sook declares that sheâs the one, and they all snigger. Sung-sook teases him to pick one of them, and even gives him a wink, and Na-ri quietly says he should stop drinking now. Eyes fixed on Na-ri, Hwa-shin says heâs going to date Hye-won, whoâs been silent so far. Youâre not actually meant to answer that, you goat! Sung-sook congratulates Hye-won on being chosen, and gives Hwa-shin a wink on her way out. At school, Pal-gang looks in the mirror and touches her face. âMomâs hand sure burns,â she says, and smiles. Hwa-shin gets a call from the realtor, whoâs found him a place near Pal-gangâs. Dong-gi comes over to tease him about dating Na-ri, and Hwa-shin retorts that he isnât dating anyone. He heads out to his car, still plagued by his performance the night before. Na-ri throws herself in his carâs path, because she has an urgent request. She makes him pinky-promise not to reveal her past crush on him to Jung-won, and also reminds him of their hospital appointment. Quietly crestfallen having entertained a different hope for a moment, he tells her to get out of his way, and drives off. Watching him go, Na-ri scoffs to herself that of course a crush changesâitâs not like sheâs a statue in a museum. âHe doesnât even like me. And he always looks down on me,â she says, eyes narrowing. Meanwhile in his car, Hwa-shin curses himself for an idiot, for falling for her now. Jung-wonâs mom needles him about Na-ri, and says his girlfriend must be a liar because she said itâs going to rain, but it doesnât look like rain, does it? Schooling himself to patience, Jung-won says that whether it rains or not is the cloudsâ fault, not the weathercasterâs. Mom tells him that his father called herâfor the first time in three yearsâto say that if she can get Jung-won married to Soo-jung, he wonât divorce her. Why does that sound like a lie? Wheedling, she says, âJung-won-ah. Save me. Donât make me a divorcee.â âI want you to be happy,â Jung-won replies, âYou want me to be happy, too, right? Thatâs fine, then,â he finishes, turning away. She follows him outside, and says that Na-ri only wants him for his money, unlike Soo-jung, who is far wealthier. Mom says she just had brunch with her, and she said she likes him and means to introduce him to her parents. Jung-won tells his mom that Soo-jung lied to her, and drives off alone. He mulls on Soo-jungâs stealthy betrayal. âI hate people who backstab the most,â he glowers to himself. At his bank, Hwa-shin tries to pay the deposit on the new place and finds out heâs been the victim of voice phishing from back in an earlier episode, and has lost 10 million won. Ouch. He tries to sell off some of his stocks to raise funds instead, but that doesnât work out either. Na-ri tries to record the intro reel for her audition. She quickly hides away her camera when Ja-young appears, with juniors Soo-jung and Jin in tow. Soo-jung glares at Na-ri, who deflects attention from herself by offering to run any errands for Ja-young. Instead, Ja-young sends the other two away. With sidelong glances, she asks Na-ri to let her have the puppy keychain Pal-gang gave her. Na-ri agrees easily. Before Ja-young goes off, Na-ri asks, âYouâre a fair person, right?â She bows to the older woman, and tells her that she wants to be acknowledged by her at least once. Hwa-shin pulls up to a jjimjilbang, which isnât quite as it seems. He shows a special text message at reception, and is let into an underground gambling den. With a camera hidden in his towel, he takes extensive footage of the place, which we see later airs on the evening news. His furtive filming is quickly discovered, and Hwa-shin takes a beating. In the newsroom, heâs covered in cuts and bruises as he takes questions on his investigation. Jung-won slips into the studio, Na-ri joins him with a smile. From the newsdesk, Hwa-shin watches them whisper to each other. After the broadcast finishes, Hwa-shin goes up to his friend to say hello. Jung-won slings his arms around Hwa-shin and Na-ri, excited about the three of them going on dates together. He steers them out, but Hwa-shin insists heâs already got plans. Jung-won grabs him in a friendly headlock, but Hwa-shin yells angrily at Jung-won to leave him alone and stop dragging him into his dating life. But Jung-won finds his desperate rejection all the more reason to stay close to his friend. Na-ri edges away, saying that the two men should go by themselvesâŠsheâll just have some cup ramyun. The mention of cup ramyun is the last straw for Hwa-shin, and he flails, âYou said you didnât have any!â Hye-won emerges from the studio and coolly reminds Hwa-shin about their dinner-date. He snaps at her, and a beat later, barks agreement. He puts his arm around her and stomps off. Na-ri whispers to Jung-won that those two are dating, which surprises him since Hye-won is not Hwa-shinâs type. He confides to Na-ri that Hwa-shinâs type is similar to his. Na-ri disagrees âHe doesnât like women like me.â Jung-won pinches her cheeks and tells her that Hwa-shin definitely likes her, otherwise he wouldnât have set them up. Across the lot, Hwa-shin watches them from his car, and Hye-won observes that he and Soo-jung have been made laughingstocks. âJagi-ya, what shall we eat?â Jung-won asks Na-ri, and she smiles at the endearment. As their car passes his, Hwa-shin wonders aloud what theyâre going to eat. Chef helps Sung-sook out with heavy shopping she brings home that night, and to Sung-sookâs shock, he gives her a big olâ wink. Ha, so heâs taking the pills! He slaps his face in dismay and apologizes, but the winks keep happening. Inside, Sung-sook squees a little, thinking Chef is interested in her, but the sight of a newly-placed giant portrait of Grandma makes her scream. Fleeing to the fridge, she gobbles up the dumplings she finds there, seeing too late Grandmaâs note that says theyâre for Pal-gang, and if either mom eats a single one, she will cut them. Ja-young goes to pick Pal-gang up from school, but Chi-yeol and Dae-goo come out first. She fusses over them, and blinks in shock when Chi-yeol winks at her. He gasps. Apologizing, he styles out that itâs because he wishes she were his mom. She offers to be his mom, too, if he doesnât have high expectations, and gives him a wink back. Hwa-shin brings Hye-won to a rooftop apartment. The building is directly adjacent to Pal-gangâs and therefore Na-riâs, far closer to than he expectedâtoo close, he says, looking troubled. Jung-won drops Na-ri home, and her polite farewell makes him ask her why she keeps treating him so formally. She eventually confesses she hasnât really dated much and doesnât know what to do, but wanted to make a good impression. Jung-won gently argues that heâs the one who has to make a good impression, and tells her to do as he says âEverything. All of it.â He repeats back all the polite platitudes sheâs given him all night, and exclaims, âIâm a man who wants to love you, jagi-ya!â She confides frankly that she doesnât remember when she last received love, and Jung-won playfully retorts that she doesnât seem to be used to giving it either. She asks him super-formally if he finds her frustrating, and he laughs, bringing her speech down level by level. But he groans when she reverts a sentence later, to ask if sheâs already been dumped. This conversation is ridiculously adorable. Eyes merry, he says goodbye, but to his surprise, Na-ri leans into his car and kisses him on the cheek. As heâs driving away, Jung-won pauses when he spots Hwa-shinâs car a building over. On the rooftop, Hye-won asks Hwa-shin why he brought her there. âLend me some money,â Hwa-shin says. âHow much?â she replies. Ha, that seals it, I definitely like her. She asks if thatâs why he asked her to date, but he says even if she lent him it, he wouldnât date her. Squeeing to herself as she comes up, Na-ri doesnât yet notice the pair on the other rooftop. Meanwhile, Jung-won has left his car, and looks up at Hwa-shinâs new building. Hye-won tells Hwa-shin not to be a fool and tell Na-ri properly that he likes her. He refuses, but Hye-won argues that that he could easily steal her away from Jung-won. For some mad reason, he actually entertains the thought. Of course, itâd make him a total bastard, Hye-won adds, and Hwa-shin finally realizes that sheâs trolling him. Hye-won enjoys a good laugh, but around the corner, the camera reveals an unsmiling Jung-won, whoâs heard it all. On her own rooftop, Na-ri turns around at the sound of Hye-wonâs laughter. Surprised, she waves, and is about to call out when Hye-won puts a finger to her lips. Eyes on Na-ri, Hye-won tells Hwa-shin not to be a jerk, but to do the 9 oâclock news with her, date herâŠher voice trails off. âDo you think I canât do it?â Hwa-shin asks. He finally raises his head, and with a look of dark determination, he says, âIâll have a go at being a bastard.â COMMENTS Uwaaaaaaaaa. Gauntlet, thrown! But as much as I want Hwa-shin to stop being mopey and passive, I also donât want him to be a buttface. And as much as I think a fierce friendship needs a few good fights to strengthen it, I donât want him to destroy the one good relationship left in his life, which he clearly relies on despite his bluster. Is it bad that I kind of donât trust Hwa-shin not to do something that makes him irredeemable? I think Hwa-shinâs real confession to Na-ri came last episode when he told her all the reasons why Jung-won was better than him in the classic Hwa-shin way ass-backwards. As diverting as his performance as a human jukebox was, itâs no real proof that heâs capable of being a good boyfriend. Despite his secret defences and stealthy caretaking, he still has so much more to prove that he can openly respect Na-ri; that heâs capable of intentional emotional honesty not only to himself, but to her, while sober. He also still has to deal with all his self-loathing, and by extension, all his self-destructive behavior. I know the Jung-won ship is like a transit flight, but Iâm on it until we sail into Port Hwa-shin, because I love what he does to Na-ri. Like how heâs able to coax her into frankness, with confessions that could be embarrassing, but he never lets them be. Itâs such a great dynamic, because it cuts away at the cloud of insecurities that surround her, that make her feel like sheâs not good enough or worthy of being loved. I love that the show let her kiss him, tooâmost shows only let a heroine kiss her One True Love. But with that kiss last episode, itâs saying that theyâll let this relationship go all the way to its natural conclusion. So when she does go to Hwa-shin, it wonât be the pull of an old crush. It will be something new, and a meeting of equals. As much as Hwa-shin needs to tame his ego and stop self-sabotaging, Na-ri needs to open her heart. Thatâs whatâs so great about Jung-won right now, because he pushes herânot to do things she doesnât want to, but not to be afraid of being herself. Heâs telling her, both implicitly and explicitly, not only that itâs okay to be herself, but that he likes her most when she is. In a way, heâs teaching her how to date and leading by example, which really is terribly sweet obviously this guy can never be real. A big part of that is making her pull her own weight in the relationship and not letting her off the hook when she doesnât. As he pointed out to her, they canât have a proper relationship if he does all the work. And so Na-riâs being slowly brought to this point where her heart is ready to bloom. Despite her three-year crush, I feel like Na-riâs heart has been furled tight all this time, with only room for her brother in it. Her generous spirit makes it easy to miss that she doesnât really have anyone by her side, the way Hwa-shin has Jung-won. Hwa-shin told her that Jung-won was lonelier than himâso is she. Itâs another element of what makes the Na-ri/Jung-won relationship so compelling, because they shine so brightly, defying all lonelyhearts stereotypes. Gahhhh. I love it. Theyâre so right for each other right now, and I think it has really important meta implications, too, because it promises our characters change and serious development. The endgame of this show is not a mystery and never has been, but the fascinating part is figuring out how weâll get there in a way that is satisfying, believable, and true to the characters. Iâm really digging how the confidence Na-ri is gaining in her private life is also being mirrored in her professional life. She has an enviable sense of self-respect, but sheâs constantly put down at work despite being great at her job which Hwa-shin, to his credit, has always recognized. Thatâs what excites me a bit about Na-riâs connection with Ja-young, who now has something to gain from her because of her connection to Pal-gang. Itâs not that Na-ri gains an advantage from the connection, but that her disadvantages are less overpowering, which does a lot to level the playing field. If Ja-young and Sung-sook are forced to look at Na-ri as a person, and worth something by her own virtue, they wonât be able to dismiss her again. Theyâre women whoâve demanded recognition for their own skills, but along the way, become stooges for the very system theyâve fought, pandering to the wealthy, the connected, the elites, in a way that does disservice to their own struggles to reach the top. So itâs gratifying to think that Na-ri might at last get a real shot at these auditions. By this point, I think she must have aced the original interviews, but lost out to Hye-won and Soo-jung due to her lack of influence. Speaking of Hye-won, apart from Seo Ji-hye finally having more to do, isnât her straight-talking, blunt manner appealing? You get the sense that sheâs sincere about doing well at her job, but her status gets in the way of her fairly earning her place. Although at the same time, I donât think she wants to give up any of her privileges. But even if she wants to have her cake and eat it, you canât help admiring her guts. I like her as a foil to Hwa-shin right now, too. Bearing unpalatable home-truths, sheâs like an antidote to the self-pity he so enjoys. But she seems driven by ambition rather than malice, so I canât quite figure out if sheâs truly jealous of Na-ri, or just enjoys playing everyone. She seems like someone who makes a great friend and a terrifying enemyâŠoo, Na-ri and Hye-won as friends? Now thereâs a ship I want to see!
